Senior Web Programmer/Web Developer – Lead
Ready to build the next generation of fast web management software
that will be used by 100,000+ people overnight? Can you wrangle a team
of smart programmers to all point directly at the end product?
The "languages of the house" are PHP (front, most) and Perl (back,
less) built on MySQL (only! But in a good way, millions of rows is no
problem, and we even use RAM tables sometimes).
We can work in other languages and if you are a master of something
other than PHP or Perl, like Python, Ruby, Java or C/C++/OC, no
problem, but the language does need to suit the deployment,
maintainability, and the knowledge of the team. Either way, expertise
in PHP and MySQL would be in your future!
On the UI side, a good knowledge of the standard stuff plus the modern
approach of using AJAX to process data "in page". You will have a
front end web master/web designer/html coder on the team for most of
that stuff, but you do need to be able to guide that role.
Our platform is Linux and we are experts at making the platform very
fast, but you will need to design "light" code. In other words, we
definitely believe in tons of RAM, fast disks, and lots of processing
power, but we do not believe in loading up ten libraries and 2000
lines of code to store a name in a database.
A couple attributes you should have:
§  Rigorous project planning skills
§  Solid release management experience/process
§  Write locked down code right from the get go
§  Great day to day management that encourages the best from your team
§  Know how to create an environment that lets your programmers get
"in the zone"
§  Version control that helps vs. hinders rapid development
§  Can do code sprints (long days of focused programming) if the
schedule requires it
§  A love of mentoring
§  Know how to get the software out on time!
And you probably have:
§  Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field
§  6+ years of real industry experience in web development
§  2+ years leading at team of programmers (small team ok)
